Designer Lasse Kornum tells:
This design was drawn and painted on Koh Tao in Thailand, where the bathing flamingo is by no means an endangered species. Who got the idea to design these inflatable birds is the tantalizing question that is the inspiration for this design. My guess is that someone must have observed a distressed flamingo in a lifeline, and then the rest just sort of gave itself. It's worth considering whether the swimming animal design would have been as commercially successful if the distressed bird had been an ostrich!?
