The story
The eel's scientific name 'Somateria mollissima' means, loosely translated, 'Very soft and woolly body'. The eider, on this design, has taken the name very literally – and in a desire to live up to the humans' nickname, he got a local Faroese woman to knit him a woolen sweater. His new maritime look got him hired on a ship, where he served for many years as the captain's pillow.
